a crisp, pale European lager with light malt sweetness, subtle herbal hops, gentle bitterness, and a clean, refreshing finish. Heineken’s history began in Amsterdam in 1864, when 22-year-old Gerard Adriaan Heineken purchased the De Hooiberg brewery and set out to produce a more consistent, high-quality lager. By the 1870s, the brewery had adopted bottom-fermentation techniques inspired by Bavarian brewing, helping create the clean lager style associated with the brand today. Heineken later developed its own proprietary “A-Yeast,” which remains central to the beer’s signature flavor. The company expanded rapidly across Europe and became one of the earliest major European beer brands to establish a strong international presence. Its green bottle, red star, and distinctive branding became recognized around the world. Today, Heineken is brewed and sold globally and remains one of the most recognizable premium lagers in the beer industry.
